About
My name is Theresa and I am a 29 year old composer. I am originally from East New York in Brooklyn. I have been residing in
Atlanta, Georgia for almost 6 years. I am single mother of two, ages 12 (boy) and 9 (girl). My interest in music began when
I was in the first grade; while attending the Roberto Clemente School in East New York I joined the string orchestra, Ms.
Barbara Carlson was the music teacher. Ms. Carlson started me off playing the violin, as I excelled, I later upgraded to the
viola. During the course of 6 years, I received several awards. I also received a scholarship to the Manes College of music
in New York City. One year two fellow top music students and I were featured in the New York Amsterdam News (a weekly newspaper
geared for the African-American community of New York City, also, one of the four largest African-American newspapers in the
United States) with Jazz Musician Noel Pointer, who had visited the Roberto Clemente School. Later on as a teen, I developed
a strong interest in writing song lyrics and poetry. At the time, they both were a hobby I enjoyed. It was also a time I used
to escape from family problems and the strain of growing up in a household with very little money and being raised by a single
parent. I also became interested in being a DJ, but never had the means to do so. As the years went on, I held on to my dream
of wanting to make music but never really thought I would have the opportunity to do so. As an adult, I continued writing
song lyrics and poetry, at which I had gotten better. In 2006 A friend, who also had an interest in music, installed a home
studio computer program on our computer called FL6, also known as Fruity Loops. I was shown the very basics on how to get
started, I have been using the program to compose my own music ever since. As time goes on, my skills have gotten better as
far as how to put songs together. After creating each track, I then copyright them before allowing anyone outside the family
to hear them. As for today, I hope to soon become a music producer/publisher/writer. I am still holding on to my dreams.
