About
Born and raised in the West Tennessee area, Jackson native Dustin "Dizzy D" Warren has been destined for a music
career since he was old enough to walk. Coming from a family with a diverse musical background, Dizzy quickly took an interest
in the world of music. Both his father and older brother were excellent musicians, playing nearly every instrument imaginable
while singing rock and country tunes. Like so many others, Dizzy got his start in music by singing every Sunday at his local
church. However, as he grew older, Dizzy realized that his true calling was a form of music that no one else in his family
had yet explored, hip-hop.
Despite his mother's warnings not to get involved with hip-hop music, Dizzy and his childhood friend, J Beats, began secretly
making rap songs during their early high school years. J Beats would produce the records while Dizzy focused on honing his
lyrical skills. While laying the groundwork for his music career, Dizzy also became the first ever 4-sport athlete at his
high school, and graduated with honors near the top of his class. Rather than pursuing rap music immediately, Dizzy decided
to enroll in college courses at the University of Memphis.
Throughout his collegiate term, Dizzy amassed an extensive network in the world of hip-hop. While earning his degree, Dizzy
wrote literally hundreds of songs as his lyrical prowess continued to improve. He landed songs on three extremely successful
underground compilation mixtapes while in Memphis. Additionally, Dizzy started gaining citywide recognition for both his hot
verses and high-energy performances. His fans even crowned him with the nickname "Young Larry Bird" because he calls all his
shots. Notable performances in Dizzy's career include a spot in the Source Magazine Hip-Hop Showcase, headlining Memphis'
annual Africa in April festival, and numerous shows at local clubs such as Newby's and the Plush. Dizzy recently received
his Bachelor's degree from the U of M, while also garnering campus recognition by being chosen for the prestigious Greek Man
of the Year award.
Now finished with his collegiate years, Dizzy has turned his full focus to his first love, music. Taking full advantage of
the digital age, Dizzy has put forth a concerted effort to market his music through the internet, namely on the ever popular
MySpace.com. Dizzy has achieved great success, becoming a mainstay in the top 5 unsigned rap artists in Tennessee on the myspace
music charts. Dizzy has also reached as high as the 51 unsigned rap artist out of millions on the website. Due to increasing
popularity, his first smash single, "Wood Grain Grippin", is currently in regular rotation on West Tennessee radio stations
and 107.3 Jamz in Greenville, SC, so keep your ears open for a fresh, new sound from one of Jackson's finest. With his first
solo album, Check Me Out", set for major distribution in late summer of '08, Dizzy looks to be one of the first few artists
to put Jackson, TN on the map nationwide!
